5th Day in Konya

Image
That was our last day there.  We got up at 7 o’clock to go to school. We went to the computers room to make the presentation  that we have prepared on Thursday. After that, teachers asked some questions for us to debate and later we shared our opinions with the other students.  Later we had lunch at school and we received our Certificates of Participation in the project. In the afternoon, we visited a Tropical butterflies Garden and we learnt interesting things about butterflies and we also watched a fan cartoon. From there, we went by bus to the historical village of Sille to see a church and the Time Museum. After that we had some free time and we went back  with our host families for our farewell dinner and to prepare our bags. (by Catalina)

On Thursday we arrived to school at 8:00, we were working in the classroom until 9:00, after that we went to the computer room, where we prepared a presentation about energy consumption in our countries. We also announced the logo winner from our project!               Then we had lunch at the school canteen and we went by bus to the old town, where we visited Mevlana Museum, very nice and important because the tomb of Rumi,  the founder of the Dervishes is there. Then, all students without teachers went shopping to the bazaar. Later we went by tram to the mall where we had some food and went for a walk.. At the end of the day we had to say goodbye to our Swiss friends because they were leaving on Friday. (by Unai)

3rd Day In Konya

Image
Today we had to get up very early because we have gone on a trip to a city about 3 hours away from Konya. We have gone to the Cappadocia that is a region where Christians took refuge from the Muslims, in underground caves and tunnels. We have visited two museums, the first one was outdoors and there were caves in a mountain. A guide has explained the history of the place. Then we have got on the bus and we have gone to another museum, where we have seen and entered underground tunnels. The ceilings were very low, therefore some tall students had to bend down to avoid hitting their heads. Outside  the museum there was a small bazaar and all Spanish and Swiss students together with some Turkish students went to buy gifts for the families, we took the bus again and they took us to a big gem store where if you had enough money you could buy nice gifts; everything was very expensive but very nice. Once again we took the bus and we went for lunch to a free buffet where everythin

2nd Day In Konya

On Tuesday we went to the Science Center where a scientist explained us all types of energy, renewable and non-renewable; besides we visited different exhibitions and interacted with some displays: we could make rain, make a car run with eolic energy, learned about nuclear energy, solar energy etc... We also visited the planetarium and we have a fun experience there. We had lunch there and after that we did some workshops about things related to energy: solar panels, wind turbines, yeats fermenting sugar etc. I think we learnt a lot. In the evening we went to the bazar to buy some presents for our families and we went home soon because the next day we had to wake up very early to go to Cappadocia.          (by Daniel)

Energy (2º Level Inquiry Learning)

Within the second level of inquiry learning, students performed experiments related to energy. In the video you can see some of them:

Does the shape of the helices influence the production of energy?

In the scientific center we could see very clearly different aspects of energy production. The following video shows the difference in energy production according to the type of propellers used.

Our first day in Konya, we met at eight o’clock at school. When we arrived all the Turkish students sang their national anthem.  We begun to meet  all the students of the school, they were very nice people. After some time talking and visiting the school we went to meet the District Governor; he welcomed us, asked a few questions about our project and also gave us some presents for students and teachers.  Later we were received by the Director of National Education in Konya. Back to school, we were invited to the opening ceremony, they welcomed us and some students sang songs and played traditional music.  Then, we had a wonderful lunch prepared by the  Turkish students and some time later they showed us the school.  We had fun learning their traditional dances and songs.        After this, we went to the Islamic Art Center where we learned about Ebru painting, a traditional art of paper marbling on water, it was a really nice experience.  We returned ba
