3rd day in Genève

Image
On Wednesday morning we had to get up very early because we had to be at school at 7:30 to travel to Lausanne to the Essential Tech Laboratory at EPFL. When we arrived we had an introduction of the EPFL and a discussion on the essential tech  film previously seen at school. After that the students were separated in 4 groups to make 4 practical experiences organized by members of the essential tech laboratory. The activities were about different aspects of the scientific study: training, infrastructures, financial resources and climate. After the activities we went to Cailler Chocolate Factory in Gruyere. It was amazing, we tried so many different chocolates that i can remember.

2nd day in Genève

On Tuesday morning we met at school at 9:30. We saw a film about Essential Tech. In that film we could see that many of the medical equipments donated to Africa are not used there for many reasons. Sometimes they work for a while and stop working and nobody was there to fix them, also sometimes they don't have electricity, or as they have a different temperature, equipment is not working properly. So, sometimes donations turn into a problem because they have to throw them, they called them the White Elephant (very big and useless). It was very shocking for us because we didn't expect that donations could turn into a problem. In Tuesday afternoon we had a guided visit of Genèva. We saw the Jet d'eau, the cathedral, old town... it was very nice to see the city.

1st day in Genève

On Monday we visited CERN to work on Inquiry Levels 1 and 2. First of all we entered CERN, it was very exciting, because we have heard a lot about this place where many work on science is done.  We visited an exposition where we could see how the particules accelerator works.  After that we started the could chamber activity. We built our own particle detector using dry ice and isopropanol to make cosmic particles and natural radiation visible. For making the experiment we had to follow the safety rules specified by the S'Cool LAB team.  When the experiment was created we could observe and categorize particle tracks: proton, neutron, electron, muon, positron and photon.  On Monday afternoon we had the school reception. We met the principal and the swiss students have prepared a guided tour through their school. We really liked it, and we could see their amazing computer room, and also that they have classes that we don't have such as kitchen classes and art clas
